Different Aspects of Plant Agriculture

Background

The course proposed for 2nd year Animal Husbandry students provides general background of various aspects of plant agriculture.  In addition to the information brought at Zoom lectures, the students will be trained in information gathering and presenting.  For that purpose, the students will be divided into several breakout rooms and each group will prepare and present short lecture about one of the course topics.  The course is including 5 Zoom meetings of 2 hours each.  Three of the meeting will be dedicated to lectures and the other two meetings will host students' presentations and class discussions

·         Infrastructure required for plant agriculture

·         Plant groups: field crops, vegetables and fruit trees

·         Field crops' example: cotton production

·         Vegetables' example: tomato production

·         Fruit trees' example: mango production

·         Plant propagation: seed germination, grafting, micropropagation

·         Plant genetics and seed production

·         Plant protection

·         Irrigation and fertilizers

·         Recent technologies in agriculture: sensor and smartphone based' extension, precision farming
