Course Summary:

This course enables you to study basic methods and techniques of poultry farming in modern farms. To learn how to maximize production and basic principles of nutrition and biosecurity.

  • Managing the Maturing and Mature Laying Hen: Breeds, Systems for keeping layers, Moving pullet to laying cages, Preparing for the pullets. Uniformity, Crowding layers in cages, Light management for layers, Egg shell quality, Egg Size, Dirty eggs, External parasites, Culling hens, Induced molting, Calculations of production index
  • Biosecurity: Definition and Objectives, How Poultry Disease Spreads, Survival time of pathogens outside the host, SANITATION, ISOLATION, TRAFFIC CONTROL, Rodent biology & control, Wild birds, Barrier to Invaders, Beetles, Flies, Biosecurity procedures: Cost & Benefit
  • Hot Climate Management: Thermoregulation in poultry, Behavioral adjustment, Thermoneutral Zone, The Thermal environment, Effect of exposure time to heat, Evaporative heat lose & Non Evaporative heat lose, passive thermoregulation & Active thermoregulation, Wind Chill effect, Reducing the sun Radiation, Insulation, Moisture buildup in poultry house, Ventilation, evaporative cooling pad
